Underpinning

A business term that refers to the foundation or fundamental principles that support a system or process. In a business context, underpinning can refer to the underlying technologies, infrastructure, or frameworks that enable a company’s operations, products, or services. It is the underlying support structure that ensures the stability, security, and reliability of a business. Underpinning can also refer to the key principles, values, or beliefs that guide a company’s culture and decision-making processes. Understanding the underpinning of a business is critical for long-term success and sustainability.

In business coaching, the underpinning of a client’s goals or aspirations is the foundation upon which coaching is built. For example, if a client’s goal is to increase sales, the underpinning might be a desire to grow their business or increase profitability. By understanding the underpinning of a client’s goals, the coach can tailor their coaching approach to help the client achieve their desired outcomes. This might involve addressing underlying issues or obstacles that are preventing the client from reaching their goals, or helping the client clarify their vision and values to align their actions with their aspirations.
