Stopgap
Refers to a temporary solution or measure taken to address an urgent problem or need. A stopgap measure is often used as an interim solution until a more permanent solution can be developed or implemented. Stopgap measures are commonly used in response to unforeseen events or emergencies, such as natural disasters or supply chain disruptions. While stopgap measures can be effective in the short term, they are not intended to be a long-term solution and may need to be revisited or revised as circumstances change.
In business coaching, a stopgap solution could refer to a temporary measure taken to address an unexpected problem or gap in a company’s operations. For instance, if a key employee leaves the company suddenly, the coach may work with the remaining team members to identify a stopgap solution such as redistributing the workload or hiring a temporary replacement until a permanent replacement can be found. The coach may also help develop longer-term strategies to prevent similar problems from occurring in the future.
